I've never gone camping in my entire life.. this was a first, and I must say that it was quite different from what I was expecting. For some reason, I keep forgetting that 'Summer' officially ends on this weekend and that it would be very cold... Needless to say, I was under packed, and unprepared for the cold weekend up ahead!
Friday: at work we had company pizza lunch and then watched 'The Commitments' with everyone in the boardroom... Then at 3pm we got off work and I was about to start my camping trip! I picked up Jeff first and waited for Em to get off work, so we can get ready to go... but there were so much stuff we were missing that.... we didn't leave for Algonquin until 9:30pm... The drive was dreadful with many popos! Took us until 1am to get to Algonquin area and another 45 minutes to get to our site! But man... were the stars amazing and we saw the Milky Way... :) If we didn't get lost that first night, I might never have discovered the beauty of the night sky...
Saturday: Woke up to scrambled eggs and peameal bacon! our Day 1 at camp was wet and unplanned.. Due to my own stupidity I did not bring anything that was waterproof and therefore could not go out on walks for the lack of proper attire.... so what we end up doing for most of the afternoon was play Phase 10 with Ronnie, Byron, James, Jeff, Em and I! After a quick nap everyone (excluding Em the Napper) was playing Mafia... Byron was doctor 3 times... James was doctor twice... and Alan was killer 4 times!! It was very fun, until we (Ronnie and I... and our boys) were volunteered to make quesadilla dinner... Ronnie did most of the cooking, while the rest of us did the cutting and prep the food (or get the fire started) The night ended with everyone sleeping early... the only people who stayed until 1am for the fire + drinks were Em, Jeff, James and I.... :) the sky was beautiful tonight too...
Sunday: We are always the last one out of our tent, cuz I guess we outlast everyone else the night before... Anyways... We had soup and hot dogs for brunch today... and we were way ahead of schedule for kayaking, so we spent quite a bit of time playing some more Mafia... I like the game and the townspeople continue to have a knack for killing the doctor... I don't know why... Anyways.... the much anticipated Kayak/Canoe was at 1:30 and we packed 9 people in Em's minivan... man... I can feel the car being 'MUCH' heavier than anticipated! But we all got there fine! We got on our kayaks and immediately began paddling towards the closest island... we had a mini adventure and toured the island. It was quite interesting. Afterwards we meet up with the rest of the canoe people and went around in circle trying to decide if we should portage... Majority voted against it because it would be at least a .5 km walk with a heavy canoe/ kayak on our back + rain... Anyways, soon after we were caught in a mini rain storm so we went back to shore and now 10 people fitted into eM's minivan on our way back to the site... I think we can run a business smuggling people across the border... haha... jk.... After a hot dog and a 3 hour nap we woke up to find out that it has been 'decided' that we will not be having pasta dinner and will munch on the snack as a meal... Ronnie and I volunteered to cook the pasta if Alan will do the dishes... and so we proceed to cook... At 10 pm, dinner was finally ready... and the boys held their end and did the dishes... :) Once again we stayed up until 2 am, but with a slightly bigger group, addition of Alan, Chris and Will... :) We drank until Jeff was tipsy!
Monday: Had late breakfast of ham and sandwich and croissants. Then played a bit of Beach volley ball (minus the beach) with Alan's car doing the most save :) Great way to use up extra energy from the trip... :) We stopped by Hunstville for lunch, but since the place that Alan picked was ubber packed, people in our car decided to go to a different local restaurant (Louis II Restaurant & Tavern.) I think that the calamari and escargot was excellent (we had extra cheese and escargots) and the Club sandwich was yummy too with very crispy, but awesome bacon. For 2 delicious appetizers, a sandwich + large portion of fries and 2 drinks we only paid $35 (tips included) Would go again if we head up that way again.... :) A hearty meal is a great way to end an unforgettable weekend :)
